What is MBR/MBBR STP (Sewage Treatment Plant)?
MBR (Membrane Bioreactor) is an advanced wastewater treatment technology that combines biological treatment with membrane filtration. It is highly efficient in removing organic and inorganic contaminants, bacteria, and suspended solids, resulting in high-quality treated water suitable for reuse.
Functionality Explained
MBR operates by utilizing a biological process for organic matter removal, followed by membrane filtration to separate solids and liquids. The membranes ensure that even the finest particles, bacteria, and pathogens are retained, producing ultra-clear water. This system is ideal for applications where high-quality effluent is required.
MBBR uses floating plastic carriers with a large surface area for biofilm growth. These carriers are suspended in the aeration tank and are continuously mixed by air. The biofilm on the carriers treats the wastewater by breaking down organic pollutants.
Key Features and Benefits
The treated water exits through an outlet screen that prevents the carriers from leaving the tank.
